Is it me or what?

I was just going to make a post...and get some other opinions......Is it just me or has people's work ethics changed..... I was always taught that you work hard and then even harder. If there is nothing to do....you find something to do....I was always taught when it comes to school work or a even a job itself...you work hard.... I look back now ... and thank my parents for making me stay home on the weekends and work while my friends were out playin' or sleeping in. If I didn't have a school activity, I was helping my parents either at the house or on the farm. Back then.....I hated it and disliked my parents for it.... And now, I see all my siblings VERY successful at a young age....I hope that I can and will make this possible for my children by being a hard, but loving parent....

Thank you mom and dad for everything you have done.....and making me do things for you and the entire family.....A family business (especially growing up on a farm) would one of the best ways to grow up and learn family values and a great work ethic...

CHECK OUT MY POLL....

Great post, Steph. I voted in the poll and said Laziness was to blame. But here's why. I think people are lazy these days because things are just handed to them. There is an expectation that just because you are American, free, and over 21, you should have the right to have everything given to you. I grew up the same way you did...it wasn't an option to not work hard. I shoveled burned trash, worked goats, worked in pecan orchards, and had summer jobs my whole life. It has definitely made me the worker I am today. I see this daily in my classroom. Kids expect to get a reward, something tangible, for their effort. Gone are the days of working because it is the right thing to do and because it makes you feel proud and good about yourself. Now, the question is always, "Well, what do I get for it?" I tell you, its scary to think of our children growing up right now (or soon), because the youth of today will someday be our children's elders...that is a scary thought to me. One more thing...I truly believe this is one of the biggest reasons the U.S. is such a FAT country. We sit on the couch, play video games, watch t.v. and are not moving around because again...lazy!!! If you are programmed to be that way, it is so hard to get over it on your own. You are raising your kids right, and I'm thankful for parents like you who are instilling those values like a good work ethic, into the children who will be taking care of us in our old age!
